How I Structure My Time: Check Out My Daily Schedule as a CEO!

I’ve found that in order to maximize my time and make sure I’m reaching my strategic goals, I need to be very intentional with my weekly calendar flow. I recently revamped my schedule to include blocks for deep project work; open times for calls with team members, clients, and potential clients; personal priorities; networking events and opportunities; and more. Time is a limited resource, which is why productivity and efficiency are top concerns for just about every working professional and business owner I know. Balancing life and work can be a daily struggle, especially in the world of remote work!
If you find yourself spinning your wheels and barely keeping up (let alone getting ahead) it might be time to re-evaluate your time organization and set more realistic boundaries around your work output.
Why Use Time Blocking for Time Management?
I’ve found time blocking to be an incredibly useful time management strategy. Time blocking is flexible enough to allow for daily fluctuations, yet rigid enough to keep me on task. When I build my time blocks around my strategic goals, it also ensures that my business continues to grow and innovate.
That’s why when I had my September business retreat, one of my initiatives was to revamp my weekly schedule to better align with my goals and priorities. Keep reading to see what my current weekly schedule looks like, as the CEO of Melissa Swink & Co.!
Daily Non-Negotiables
My general work boundaries address my working hours vs. my non-working hours. They also respect my energy levels and peak performance times.
Get adequate sleep, with an average of 8 hours every night.
Have a morning routine that consists of coffee, meditation/prayer, reading, journaling, and exercise
Always block off one hour for a lunch break and energy reset
Spend the last 30-60 minutes of every day clearing out my inbox and prepping for the next day’s meetings
Enjoy an afternoon walk/energy reset before dinner and evening activities
Do not work during evenings or weekends

Flex time! I’m usually offline, attending personal appointments, and running errands. These things are much easier to do while my daughter is still at school.
Weekend Schedule
On weekends, I enjoy a mix of family and relaxation time, such as slow mornings, pleasure reading, outings and activities, cooking more complex meals, and family movie nights. I also make sure to spend time on household chores to reset and prepare for the week ahead.
Implementing Your Time-Blocked Schedule
When we arrange our schedules so they reflect our priorities, we’re more likely to achieve our business goals. But creating your ideal calendar is only the first step! We need to also evaluate it periodically, making adjustments and giving ourselves some grace if things don’t go quite as planned.
