How a Virtual Executive Assistant Can Save You Time

IN A HURRY? HERE’S THE BOTTOM LINE

Time management is crucial for busy CEOs and nonprofit leaders who want to maximize their productivity. I recently attended a workshop that highlighted the importance of strategic time management for CEOs and executives. But the most important lesson of all - I learned that my executive assistant should have attended in my place! As CEOs, our executive assistants can handle less crucial tasks so we can have the greatest possible impact on our organizations.

GOT A MINUTE? HERE ARE THE DETAILS TO CONSIDER

Time management is one of my favorite topics to study. I enjoy finding ways to increase my own efficiency, as a CEO, but my clients, social media followers, and newsletter subscribers also appreciate the tried-and-true techniques I share!

Why? Well, all the business owners and nonprofit leaders I know are incredibly busy. They have a lot of demands and responsibilities, so there is never a lack of tasks to keep them busy. That’s why they’re so interested in learning how to get more done without working more hours.

How CEOs Should Spend Their Time

I recently attended a virtual worship for executive assistants and Chiefs of Staff. The speaker shared the following ratios for how an executive's time should be spent:

  • 50% on growing the organization

  • 40% on running the organization

  • 10% on personal things that come up during the workday

Think about this breakdown in your role. Are you aligned? If you’re not sure how to evaluate your time, check out this helpful article.

How CEOs Should NOT Spend Their Time

The number one lesson I took away from that virtual workshop shocked me: I should not have been there in the first place!!

That’s right; as a CEO, I should arrange my time strategically so that I’m not always the one “in the room.” In this case, I should have had my executive assistant attend the meeting in my place, take notes, provide her own ideas, and distill the information for me.

As leaders, we often attend conferences and webinars and leave excited. But rarely do we find time to implement everything we’ve learned. By involving an executive assistant, we can cut to the most relevant information and also get assistance in implementing all of the best ideas.
